Oakman man sought for stolen police badges

Posted

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office is searching for an Oakman man linked to stolen property, including law enforcement badges from Georgia.

Deputies with the sheriff’s department recovered the badges and over $15,000 in property taken from Northport on Tuesday, Sept. 5, while attempting to execute an arrest warrant at 109 Blackwell Lane Oakman, Sheriff Jim Underwood said on Tuesday.

Sgt. Phillip Williams and Deputy Mark Bell found a box full of police badges while searching a storage building for 37-year-old Ronnie Dewayne Blackwell, who had several outstanding warrants.

“Knowing that Blackwell had a history of theft and receiving stolen property, Williams and Bell contacted the agencies in Georgia and were able to locate the officer the badges belonged to,” Underwood said.

Investigators with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office and Northport Police Department were called to the scene upon learning of a report that had been filed in Northport earlier in the day. An enclosed trailer with a large amount of personal property had been taken from a storage facility.

“Due to the joint investigation, all but just a few items were recovered from two different addresses in Walker County,” Underwood said.

Blackwell, who is currently out on bond for other charges, is still at large. If anyone has information on Blackwell’s whereabouts, they should contact the Walker Sheriff’s Office at 302-6464.
