Polls open today for vote on Sunday alcohol sales

Posted

Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. today for a special municipal election in Jasper to decide whether alcohol can legally be sold on Sundays.

The election is open only to residents living in Jasper.

The lone polling site will be at the Jasper Civic Center on 19th Street in downtown Jasper. Residents living in each of the five districts in the city will cast their ballots at one centralized location for the first time. It’s a move that may happen in future elections, too, city leaders said recently.

If passed, alcohol sales will be allowed on Sunday, but only after noon.
