No. 5 Jasper beats Dora

OAKMAN — The Oakman Wildcats are playoff bound.

The team finished off Class 3A, Area 8 play with an 18-3 victory over Fultondale on Thursday at Oakman High School, giving the Wildcats a perfect 4-0 record against area foes Fultondale and Holy Family.

After winning a pair of games 24-0 and 16-2 at Fultondale on Tuesday, Oakman followed suit with another dominating victory.

Fultondale scored three runs in the first inning, but Oakman countered with four runs in the bottom of the inning, five runs in the second and six in the third.

Ketch Jones earned the win for Oakman (10-6), allowing three runs, one earned run, on no hits and three walks while striking out five in three innings. Blake Lollar went the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out four.

At the plate, Sawyer Thompson was 2 for 2 with three runs, Dawson Crowell was 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI, JonDawson Tittle was 1 for 2 with three runs and an RBI, Logan Martin was 1 for 2 with a run and two RBIs, Christian Hubbard and Lollar finished 1 for 2 with two runs and Jones had two RBIs.

Jasper moved to 4-0 in Class 5A, Area 11 play with an 11-0 victory at Dora’s Wolfe Field on Thursday.

The Vikings also picked up a win in the area tie-breaker game, winning 9-7.

The Vikings had three big innings in the opener, putting three runs on the board in the third and scoring four runs in both the fifth and seventh innings.

Slade Harbin led the Jasper offense, going 3 for 4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Landon Nix was 2 for 5 with a run and an RBI, Pacey Gillott was 1 for 3 with a run and two RBIs, Kaden Shelton was 1 for 2 with two runs, Carson Alvis was 1 for 2 with an RBI, Cam Robinson was 1 for 4 with two runs, Tyler Thomasson was 1 for 4 with an RBI, and Zac Durham was 1 for 4 with a run.

Thomasson got the win on the mound, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out eight in 5 2/3 innings.

For Dora, Tanner Earnest, Logan Fowler, Tyler Allen and Austin Hogg had hits.

Jaymon Parker took the loss, giving up five earned runs on six hits and seven walks with two strikeouts in four innings.

In the second game, Ryan Childers was 3 for 5 with an RBI, Shelton was 1 for 2 with a run and three RBIs, Thomasson was 1 for 3 with four runs, Mason Slaughter was 1 for 5 with two runs, Alvis was 1 for 3 with an RBI and Parker Sawyer was 1 for 3 with a run.

Nick Keeton got the win in relief of Tyler Morrision, striking out four in 3 2/3 innings.

Jasper (15-4) plays at Pinson Valley today. Dora plays at Good Hope today.

Corner 7, Hayden 3

No. 7 Corner picked up a key area win at Hayden on Thursday, beating the Tigers 8-5.

The Yellow Jackets (12-5, 5-1) took a 3-0 lead after the third inning and never looked back.

Cole Fuller paced Corner, going 2 for 3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, Garrett Purvis was 1 for 3 with a double and two runs, Isaiah McCracken was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, Brayden Rowe was 2 for 4 with a run, Tyler McNiese was 1 for 4 with a run and an RBI and Dan Knowlton was 2 for 4.

Tanner Hayes got the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits and two walks while striking out two in 5 2/3 innings.

In the area tie-breaker game, Corner earned a 7-3 win.

Gage Lisby led the team at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a run and two RBIs, Chandler Brakefield was 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI, Rowe scored two runs and McNiese added a run and an RBI.

Colin Daniel got the win, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four in five innings. Lisby went the final two innings, striking out one and walking one.

Corner plays a double header at Oak Grove today.
