The Bulldogs earned a win over a county foe for the second time in four days on Monday, beating Dora 63-58 at Carbon Hill High School.

Carbon Hill is moving up the pecking order in Walker County.

The Bulldogs earned a win over a county foe for the second time in four days on Monday, beating Dora 63-58 at Carbon Hill High School.

Carbon Hill also defeated Oakman 94-70 on the road in an area matchup last week.

Landon Bice carried the load against Dora, making six 3-pointers and scoring 29 points, including 13 of Carbon Hill’s 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Bice had a pair of 3-pointers in the opening quarter as Carbon Hill took a 10-6 lead. Dora outscored Carbon Hill 21-17 in the second quarter, thanks to nine points from Brandon Getter, to tie the game at 27-27 at the half.

Carbon Hill regained control in the third quarter with five different players scoring points. Bice connected on two 3-pointers, Braden Wright had six points and John Michael Madison added four points. Carbon Hill led 47-39 going into the final quarter.

Brent Geeter, who had 28 points in the game, kept Dora close, scoring 10 points in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough to get past Bice and the home-standing Bulldogs.

Carbon Hill (5-5) plays again on Thursday in the Good Hands Tournament at Jasper High School. The Bulldogs play Jasper at 7:30 p.m.

Varsity Girls

Carbon Hill 36, Dora 33

Carbon Hill rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to beat Dora 36-33 on Monday night.

The home-standing Bulldogs trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half.

Dora led 8-5 after a low-scoring first quarter and 22-14 at the half. Carbon Hill cut the gap to 24-19 going into the fourth quarter.

Molly Kate Atkins paced the Bulldogs (5-5) with 13 points and three steals, Makindle McGough had eight points and six rebounds, Abby Martin had six points, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks, Lacey Evans had five points and 14 rebounds and Ricki Jill Burrough added four points.

For Dora, Deja Pendleton had 15 points, Kera James added eight points and Zabria Hubbard added six.

Both teams play in the Good Hands Tournament at Jasper High School on Thursday. Carbon Hill faces Chelsea at 6 p.m. while Dora faces Parker at 1:30 p.m.

Varsity Boys

Curry 62, Meek 59

Curry overcame a 30-point effort from Peyton Key to hand Meek its first loss of the season — 62-59 at Meek High School on Monday night.

The Tigers, ranked No. 6 in Class 1A, led by seven points after the opening quarter, but were unable to hold off the Yellow Jackets.

Meek (9-1) led 20-13 after the first quarter. Key, who transferred from Curry to Meek this season, made four 3-pointers in the opening quarter, scoring 13 points.

Curry bounced back in the second quarter with Jacob Hicks scoring nine points. The Yellow Jackets outscored Meek 16-8 in the second quarter, taking a 29-28 lead into the half.

Curry made four 3-pointers in the third quarter, but Meek got nine points from Key and six from John Mark Abercrombie in the period. The teams were tied at 46-46 after three quarters.

Five different players scored for Curry in the final period.

For the Jackets (3-7), Hicks had 12 points and 10 rebounds, Luke Smith had 12 points and John Moon Had eight points, six rebounds and five assists.

Abercrombie finished with nine points for Meek while Jacob Woodard added seven.

Meek plays in the Oak Grove pre-Christmas Tournament today while Curry hosts Oakman.
