CORDOVA — The second-ranked Cordova Blue Devils completed a perfect 4-0 season in Class 4A, Area 10 play following Thursday night’s 67-37 victory over the Good Hope Raiders at Cordova.

Isaac Chatman led the Blue Devils with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Jayce Willingham had 17 points and six rebounds. Kam Cooper scored 13 points, going 4 of 6 in three-point baskets, while recording seven steals.

Both teams had trouble scoring early. The game was a scoreless tie midway through the first quarter. After Good Hope scored the game’s first basket, Chatman completed a 3-point play at the 2:19 mark, putting the Blue Devils on the scoreboard.

Later in the quarter, with the Red Raiders on top 5-3, the Blue Devils went on a 13-0 run, with Cooper connecting on three 3 three-point baskets for a 13-5 Cordova advantage. The Blue Devils led 16-5 after the opening quarter.

The offensive onslaught continued for the Blue Devils throughout the second period, with Chatman and Willingham combining for 17 of the team’s 22 points, leaving Cordova ahead 38-17 at the half.

Chatman scored eight points in the third period, with Cordova outscoring Good Hope 18-13 to retain control, 56-30.

A hot clock-shortened fourth period saw the Blue Devils hold the scoring edge, 11-7, en route to the 67-37 win.

Cordova (13-7, 4-0) plays the Oak Mountain Eagles at Huffman High School on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Varsity Boys

Carbon Hill 58, Dora 50

At Dora, Carbon Hill broke open a close game with a big third quarter as the visiting Bulldogs defeated Dora 58-50 on Thursday night.

The teams were tied at 27-27 at the half, but Carbon Hill took control behind Landon Bice and Isaac Woodard in the third period. Both players hit key 3-pointers with Bice scoring seven points and Woodard adding six in the quarter as Carbon Hill took a 44-35 lead into the fourth period.

Braden Wright led the Carbon Hill offense in the first half. The Carbon Hill big man scored eight points in the first quarter and added five more in the second quarter. He finished with a team-high 15 points, Bice had 13 points and six assists, Woodard had 11 points and Alex Atkins put in seven points.

For Dora, Achilya Dixon had 15 points, Taveres Howard had 10 points and both Kavin Towns and Jacory Woods added eight.

Dora is scheduled to play at Mortimer Jordan at 3 p.m. today. Carbon Hill hosts Vinemont today.

Dora 51, Carbon Hill 41

Deja Pendleton scored 23 points to lead Dora to a 51-41 victory over Carbon Hill on Thursday night.

Kera James added nine points and Ja’Mya Harris put in eight for Dora.

Dora (12-6) won its fifth straight game. The Bulldogs play at Mortimer Jordan starting at 1 p.m. today.

Varsity Boys

No. 8 Meek 64, Addison 51

Jacob Woodard had 19 points and Luke Sherer put in 18 as the Meek Tigers earned a 64-51 home win over Addison Thursday night.

Meek held a 16-12 lead after the first quarter and took control by outscoring the Bulldogs 18-11 in the second quarter for a 34-23 halftime lead. The Tigers held a 54-36 lead after three quarters.

Caleb Aaron, Kevin Chino and Payton Key each had eight points for Meek (16-4). The Tigers take a five-game winning streak into today’s home game against Lynn.

For Addison (3-9), Logan Wilkins had 14 points and both Caleb Ergle an Jake Blackburn had 12 points. Addison, which has lost three straight games, plays at Winston County today.
