Prep Basketball: Jasper sweeps Dora on Senior Night

Jasper jumped out to an early lead on Senior Night and Dora never recovered as the Vikings defeated the Bulldogs 54-45 at Carl Cannon Coliseum on Friday.

Devin Harris connected on a pair of three pointers and scored nine points in the first quarter alone as Jasper took a 15-5 lead into the second period. Dora got as close as three points in the second quarter, but never made a run at the Vikings in the second half as Robert Epps’ squad earned a sweep of the season series.

Dora held a 2-1 lead early, but Jasper responded with a 9-0 run for a 10-2 lead after a Kaden Shelton 3-pointer at the three-minute mark of the opening quarter. Cole Bonner closed the period with a basket for the 10-point advantage. With Dora trailing 17-6, Brent Geeter went on a tear, hitting two 3-pointers and scoring eight points in less than 40 seconds to make the score 17-14 at the 5:36 mark.

Jasper (9-17) got points from Harris, Reed Lum, Ethan Walker, Cortez Eatmon and Jeremiah Hammond to fuel a 13-5 run that put the Vikings up 30-19 at the half.

Jasper’s lead ballooned to 17 points in the third quarter at 39-22 following an Ethan Walker 3-pointer play and three free throws by John David Harrell.

The 3-point shooting of Geeter, who made five 3-pointers on the night, and Kavin Towns kept Dora (8-18) in the game.

The duo combined for three 3-pointers in the final two minutes of the third quarter, cutting the gap to nine points. A basket by Lum put Jasper up 42-31 going into the fourth quarter.

Dora closed within seven points at 50-43 following an Averiun Berry three-point play with three minutes remaining, but got no closer.

For Jasper, Harris led the way with 12 points. Ten of 11 Vikings scored in the game. Eatmon finished with seven and both Harrell and Cole Bonner put in six. Seniors on the team are Harris, Hammond, Walker, Eatmon, Brady Jett, Brody Walden and Eric McCullar.

Geeter finished with a game high 22 points for Dora, Towns had nine and Berry put in seven.

Jasper hosts Muscle Shoals today with the ninth-grade boys game starting at 4 p.m. in the auxiliary gym and the JV boys starting at 4:30 in the main gym.

Varsity Girls

Jasper 37, Dora 19

Jasper held Dora’s offense in check all night for a 37-19 victory over the Lady Bulldogs on Friday night.

Dora scored six points in the first half and made just five shots from the field in the game.

Jasper took an 8-2 lead into the second quarter and pushed the lead to 13 points at 19-6 at the half.

Dora outscored Jasper 9-4 in the third quarter, cutting the gap to 23-15 after a pair of free throws from Zharia Hubbard late in the period.

Jasper regained control in the fourth quarter with Anna Kate Herring making a basket and Kelsey Shelton converting a 3-point play to give Jasper a 28-15 lead.

For Jasper (7-19), both McKinley Ferguson and Alex Oliver scored nine points while Shelton added seven. Malana Rigsby is the lone senior on the team.

For Dora (15-11), Hubbard led all scorers with 12 points.
