CORDOVA — The fourth-ranked Cordova Blue Devils picked up their second Class 4A, Area 10 victory on Tuesday night thanks to a 75-60 over the Dora Bulldogs at Cordova.

Prep Basketball: No. 4 Cordova tops Dora for area win

CORDOVA — The fourth-ranked Cordova Blue Devils picked up their second Class 4A, Area 10 victory on Tuesday night thanks to a 75-60 over the Dora Bulldogs at Cordova.

The Blue Devils were led by Jayce Willingham’s 28 points, while Isaac Chatman had a double-double performance of 23 points, 16 rebounds and six blocks. Demetrius Kirk added 19 points.

Dora (3-4) was led by JaCory Woods’ 24 points, while Brent Geeter scored nine points.

Cordova scored quickly and often to start the game, with Willingham totalling 13 points for a 22-8 advantage.

The Bulldogs won the second-period scoring battle, 17-11, thanks to a 12-point effort by Woods, though the Blue Devils retained control, 33-25, at the half.

Chatman scored nine points in the third period, with Cordova holding a 19-15 point edge to lead by 12 points, 52-40.

The Blue Devils outscored the Bulldogs 23-20, with Chatman scoring 11 and Kirk adding seven for the 75-60 win.

Cordova (4-1) plays the hosting South Lamar Stallions on Monday, while Dora plays at Indian Springs on Thursday.

Oakman 100, Oak Grove 96

Oakman topped the century mark for the first time this season, edging Oak Grove 100-96 in a wild game at Oak Grove High School.

The Wildcats, who scored 33 first-quarter points, sealed the game at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, knocking down 10 of 11 shots.

Skylar Hice, who had a game-high 29 points got the Oakman offense off and running in the first quarter, making two 3-pointers and scoring 12 points. Kahlil Wallace added 10 points in the opening period for a 33-19 lead.

Oak Grove outscored Oakman 26-20 in the second quarter as the Wildcats held a 53-45 lead at the half.

Andrew Bone carried the Wildcats’ offense in the third quarter, scoring eight points. Oakman held a 69-62 lead going into the final quarter.

Oakman scored 31 points in the final quarter, with both Hice and Christian Hubbard doing most of the damage.

Hice had 11 points in the frame, including four free throws while Hubbard made a pair of 3-pointers and had 12 points in the quarter. For Oakman (2-1), Hubbard had 23 points, Wallace put in 15, Bone added 13 and Dyson Crowell had 11.

Oakman will open Class 3A, Area 12 play on Friday at home vs. Vinemont.

Meek 41, Sumiton Christian 28

Kevin Chino connected on three 3-pointers and Jacob Woodard added four points in the second quarter as Meek pulled away for a 41-28 victory at Sumiton Christian on Tuesday.

Meek held a 10-4 lead after the opening quarter and took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Eagles 19-8 for a 29-12 halftime lead.

The Tigers (5-0) led 33-18 at the end of the third quarter.

Chino led a balanced Meek attack with 13 points, Jacob Woodard added 10 and Ian Sargent put in six. The Tigers play at Addison on Friday.

For Sumiton Christian, Judson Laird had 12 points. The Eagles play at Addison on Thursday.

Meek 36, Sumiton Christian 21

Meek held Sumiton Christian to just two baskets in the second half, earning a 36-21 win over the Eagles on Tuesday night.

The Tigers led 10-5 after the first quarter and 17-13 at the half. Meek outscored Sumiton Christian 19-8 in the second half. For Meek (4-3), Amanda Cunningham had 16 points, Sevanna Banks had eight, Jayden Waldrep added seven and Emma Fincher put in six.

For Sumiton Christian, Emily Hays had seven points and Isabellah Machen added six.
