CARBON HILL — Five different players scored points for Carbon Hill in crunch time Friday night as the Bulldogs pulled away from Curry for a 46-32 victory on Senior Night in the final regular-season game for both teams.

Carbon Hill held a slim 33-29 lead going into the final quarter, but the Bulldogs dominated the final eight minutes, holding Curry to a single 3-pointer.

John Michael Madison buried a 3-pointer and knocked down two free throws in the fourth quarter, Destin Blackwell, Landon Bice and Carson McGinnis added baskets and Braden Wright made two free throws.

Carbon Hill (13-14) led 13-6 after the first quarter and took a 20-15 lead into the half. Curry cut the lead to four points going into the fourth quarter.

Wright paced the Bulldogs with 15 points while Bice added nine, Blackwell had eight and Alex Atkins had seven. Blackwell, Bice and Jakob Atkins are seniors.

Curry got points from three players in the game. Jacob Hicks had 13 points, Reed Bailey put in 12 and RJ Richardson had seven.

Next up for Carbon Hill is a game against Oakman in the Class 3A, Area 12 set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hanceville High School. The winner will earn a spot in the area championship game while the loser will be eliminated.

Varsity Girls

Carbon Hill 50, Curry 35

Lacey Evans had a double-double to lead Carbon Hill to a 50-35 home victory over the Curry Yellow Jackets on Friday night.

The Bulldogs held a three-point lead going into the fourth quarter before outscoring Curry 22-10 in the final period.

Evans finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds for Carbon Hill (13-12), Molly Kate Atkins had 10 points, Abby Martin had nine points, seven rebounds and six assists, Makindle McGough had nine points and 10 rebounds and Ricki Jill Burrough had four points and nine rebounds.

McGough and Burrough are seniors on the team.

For Curry, Abbey Moon had 12 points and Keana Pearson added eight.

Carbon Hill will play Oakman at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Class 3A, Area 12 Tournament at Hanceville High School.

Sumiton Christian wins pair

Sumiton Christian knocked off a pair of Winston County schools over the last two days, beating Lynn 48-43 at home on Thursday and routing Winston County 49-27 on the road on Friday.

Against Lynn, the Eagles led 28-18 at the half, with Lynn cutting the gap to 35-32 after three quarters.

Judson Laird had 16 points for Sumiton Christian while Noah Jackson put in 17 for the Bears.

On Friday, the Eagles held Winston County scoreless in the opening quarter, taking a 5-0 lead. The Eagles led 18-7 at the half and 38-14 at the half.

Ethan Morgan led Sumiton Christian (18-9) with 11 points while Jeremy Brown put in 10.

Winston County’s Cade Taylor had 10 points.
