Prep Basketball: West Point sweeps Jasper

Jasper’s Devin Harris poured in 25 points, but it wasn’t enough Monday night as the West Point Warriors earned a 64-55 home win over the Vikings.

West Point’s Kolton Sapp and James Sullins combined for 41 points to lead the Warriors.

Sullins had eight first-quarter points and Sapp added seven as West Point took a 19-12 lead into the second quarter. Jasper’s Kaden Shelton buried a pair of 3-pointers in the opening quarter. West Point (2-3) held a slim 28-25 lead at the half.

Harris had seven points in the third quarter, but the Warriors outscored the Vikings 22-16 in the period for a 50-41 lead going into the final quarter. Harris scored 11 of Jasper’s 14 fourth-quarter points.

West Point iced the game at the free throw line, making 12 over the final eight minutes.

Sapp led the Warriors with 25 points, Sullins had 16 and Austin Dubberly added 12.

Both Shelton and Jeremiah Hammond had eight points for the Vikings (1-4), who play at Tuscaloosa County on Thursday and host Dora on Friday.

Varsity Girls

West Point 68, Jasper 24

West Point scored 24 first-quarter points and earned a 68-24 home win over Jasper on Monday night.

Three Warriors scored in double figures. West Point held a 24-6 lead after the first quarter, pushed the lead to 40-15 at the half and 60-18 going into the fourth quarter.

Kelsey Shelton led Jasper (1-4) with seven points while Alex Oliver put in five.

For West Point, Marian Oldacre had 16 points, Olivia Ball had 13 and Kyler Hembree added 10.

Jasper picked up its first win of the season in the Boaz Thanksgiving Tournament last week, beating the host team 39-32.

McKinley Ferguson led the team with 10 points while Oliver added eight.

West Point won the JV girls game 54-10.

Varsity Girls

Curry 63, Oak Grove 8

Ten different Curry players scored Monday night as the Yellow Jackets picked up a 63-8 road win over Oak Grove.

Curry led 15-2 after the quarter and 41-4 at the half. The Jackets pushed the lead to 59-6 after three quarters.

Abbey Moon paced Curry with 22 points, Keana Pearson added 14 points and Morgan Davidson scored 11 points.

Curry hosts Northside today.
