CORDOVA — Katie Moore and Karlie Ratliff came up with clutch hits in crunch time for Carbon Hill on Tuesday.

With Carbon Hill trailing Cordova by one run in their area matchup, Moore’s single tied it and Ratliff’s two-run double put the Bulldogs up for a good in their 6-3 victory.

Ratliff also picked up the win, holding Cordova to four hits. She also set down the last seven batters in a row, including a four-pitch, 1-2-3 sixth inning. She allowed three runs on four hits and four walks.

“We played well in all areas tonight,” Carbon Hill coach Wade Tittle said. “Pitching was great, defense was great, and we got timely hitting.”

Carbon Hill pounded out 11 hits in the game, including four in the sixth inning. All nine starters had hits.

“My philosophy has never changed over the years. You have to throw strikes and the defense has to make plays. And you can throw in timely hits. We had 11 hits tonight, but we got them at important times. We are such a young team (two seniors and one junior) that is looking to build confidence each game.”

On Tuesday, Carbon Hill took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Alyssa Dutton singled with one out and scored on Abby Martin’s RBI-double. Martin came around to score later in the inning.

Cordova (7-4) notched the score at 2-2 in the third when both Emma Hyche and Mary Grayson Kilpatrick walked and came around to score. The Blue Devils took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Abby Sargent singled and scored for a 3-2 lead.

Carbon Hill’s sixth-inning rally started with the first three batters reaching base. Allie Parr reached on an error and Dutton and Martin singled to load the bases with no outs. After a flyout, Moore singled to tie the game and Ratliff doubled to put Carbon Hill up 5-3. Makindle McGough drove in Moore with a groundout to the pitcher.

For Carbon Hill (4-7), McGough was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Dutton was 2 for 4 with two runs, Martin was 1 for 3 with two runs, Ratliff was 1 for 4 with two RBIs, Moore was 1 for 3 with a run and two RBIs. Parr was 1 for 3 with a run and Kenna Alexander, Anna Grace Martin and Ivie had hits.
