CURRY — Fresh off a tournament championship in Mississippi over the weekend, Curry picked up its 21st victory of the season at home Tuesday with a straight-set win over Winfield.

Prep Volleyball: Curry stays hot with home win

CURRY — Fresh off a tournament championship in Mississippi over the weekend, Curry picked up its 21st victory of the season at home Tuesday with a straight-set win over Winfield.

The Yellow Jackets (21-4) defeated the Pirates 25-12, 25-13, 25-21.

For No. 7 Curry, Rae Ann Hall had six kills, seven digs, five aces and four assists, Allie Downs had six aces, three kills and 11 assists, Grayson Evans had 11 kills, seven digs, one block and one ace and Khloe Kimbrell had 10 assists, seven aces, five kills and three digs.

On Saturday, Curry won the Corinth High School Crossroad Classic in Mississippi, beating the host team in the championship match. Curry went a perfect 6-0 on the day, taking down Corinth 25-14, 25-19 to win the tournament title.

Curry opened the day with a win over Alcorn Central, Miss. (25-14, 25-16). The team followed with wins over Lexington, Miss. (25-21, 26-24), Tishomingo County, Miss. (25-17, 26-24), New Albany, Miss. (25-14, 25-10) and McNairy Central, Miss. (25-12, 25-27, 15-9).

For the tournament, Evans had 84 kills, 43 digs, nine blocks and five aces, Kimbrell had 83 assists, 52 digs, 16 aces, eight digs and four kills, Downs had 73 assists, 19 kills, 16 digs and 13 blocks, Hall had 74 kills, 27 digs, six blocks, five aces and five assists, Abbey Moon added 18 blocks, 13 kills, 12 digs and six aces, Alayna Key had 40 digs and eight aces, Linley Tubbs had 20 blocks, seven kills and six digs, Emmalee Berry had four blocks and two digs, Karlie Miller had five digs and two assists and Raegan Dunagan had five digs.

Curry opens play in the Walker County Volleyball Tournament at Carbon Hill High School starting at 2 p.m. against the host team on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets face Dora at 4 p.m.

The tournament concludes on Saturday. Carbon Hill has won the last four county titles.

Dora sweeps tri-match

Dora picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday at Corner High School.

The Bulldogs earned an area win over Corner (25-13, 18-25, 25-20, 25-16) and also defeated Pleasant Grove (25-11, 25-21).

For Dora, which improved to 8-4, Zharia Hubbard had 29 kills, 28 digs and 10 blocks, Courtney Stone had 38 assists, eight digs, four kills, four aces and a block, Jasmine Parker had 25 digs and six aces, Michaela Brown added 25 digs, three assists, two kills, two aces and two blocks and JaMya Harris had 21 digs and five kills.

Dora plays again vs. Curry at 4 p.m. in the Walker County Volleyball Tournament at Carbon Hill High School.
