Jasper’s volleyball team is off and running.

The Vikings — ranked No. 1 in Class 5A — swept Tuesday’s season-opening tri-match at Carl Cannon Coliseum, taking down Brewer and Hayden.

“It was a good opening night,” Jasper coach Bobby Daniels said. “We had a great crowd and the kids were ready to play. Like all first matches, you find out what you need to work on. We’ve just got to worry about getting better every day.”

Jasper won the Brewer match 25-20, 25-20 and picked up an area win over Hayden, winning 25-16, 25-17, 25-7.

McKinley Ferguson led a balanced Jasper attack with 19 kills, 15 assists and four aces. Alex Oliver added 18 kills, Morgan McClendon had nine kills, Tameyah Griffin had eight kills and two aces, Molly Kate Atkins had 14 assists and two aces, Jordan Gilbert had six blocks and Abby Trotter had five digs and two aces. Jasper returns to the court on Thursday for a tri-match against both Arab and Ramsay. The Vikings play Arab at 5 p.m. and Ramsay at 7 p.m.
