Schedules reshuffled for New Year’s holiday

Revised schedules and closings have been announced in the wake of the New Year’s holiday.

Walker County offices and the Walker County Courthouse will be closed Monday, Jan. 1. County garbage routes will run as normal. The Jan. 1 meeting of the Walker County Commission will be delayed until Thursday, Jan. 4.

Schedules reshuffled for New Year’s holiday

Revised schedules and closings have been announced in the wake of the New Year’s holiday.

Walker County offices and the Walker County Courthouse will be closed Monday, Jan. 1. County garbage routes will run as normal. The Jan. 1 meeting of the Walker County Commission will be delayed until Thursday, Jan. 4.

In Dora, the city will close Jan. 1. Garbage routes will be run as normal.

Carbon Hill will be closed Jan. 1-2 for New Year’s. The Monday garbage will be picked up the previous Friday and the Tuesday garbage will be picked up the next day on Wednesday. A garbage truck will be parked Monday and Tuesday.

In Jasper, garbage pickup will be a day late, with the landfill closed Jan. 1. City Hall will be closed Jan. 1. The Natatorium is closed from now through Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Sumiton City Hall will close on Jan. 1. The Monday garbage route will be picked up on Tuesdays, with Tuesday routes picked up on Wednesday.

Cordova City Hall will be closed Jan. 1. Garbage schedules will run as normal.

Parrish will close its city hall on Jan. 1. Garbage service will run on Wednesday and Thursday.

Oakman said its garbage schedule will run as normal. The city hall there will be closed Dec. 29 and Jan. 1. The city’s senior center is closed from now through Jan. 1.

As for the mail, the United States Postal Service will close its post offices Jan. 1, and mail routes will not run that day.

The Daily Mountain Eagle office will be closed on Monday. A special subscription discount for the holidays ends on Dec. 31.

The Walker County Board of Education is marking the Christmas holidays from now through Jan. 8, with students returning Jan. 9. The Jasper City School System will mark the holidays from now through Jan. 3, with students returning Jan. 4. Bevill State Community  College is closed from now through Jan. 1.

The New York Stock Exchange will be closed on Jan. 1, and banks are expected to be closed as well.

A number of urgent care clinics and pharmacies were also expected to have special hours.
