Shelia Barrett Hogeland

Shelia Barrett Hogeland, 70, of Sumiton went to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 22, 2020, while at home surrounded by family.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at Empire Memorial Gardens. Bell Funeral Home Sumiton has been entrusted with the arrangements.

She was born in Fayette, Ala., on May 19, 1949. She attended Dora High School, then Walker State Technical College (now Bevill State Community College). She began working there as a student and continued to do so after graduation; enjoying a long and prosperous career, retiring in 2005.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James D. and Nell Dean Barrett; her sister, Gloria Whitlow (Bill); and her son, Dewayne Barrett (Lisa).

She is survived by her son, Dewight Davis (Rhonda); daughter, Gayle Hogeland Slovensky; son, Keith Hogeland; daughter, Vickie Hogeland (Tom); 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Michael Barrett (Amby) and Dalton Barrett (Deb); and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Special thanks to Irene Davenport for her love and devotion to Shelia and her family in her final days.  Shelia was an active member of Empire Church of God for many years and later attended New Life Worship Center where her son, Dewayne Barrett pastored.
