SIPSEY — The Sipsey Police Department will be hosting a free gun safety class at the end of this month.

On Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Sipsey Community Center, Police Chief Mareshah Moses will be leading the gun safety class, which will cover topics including the proper handling of a hand gun and child safety when there are guns in the home.

Moses said that people need to be aware of how to properly use their hand guns. Kids often think that real guns are the same as ones they play with in video games and, if they come across one in the home, think they can handle it even though it’s not the same at all, he added.

People are not allowed to bring ammunition and the class is only for handguns.

Those interested are not required to call ahead and can show up at the night of the class, with gun registration being held at 6:30 p.m. and the class beginning at 7 p.m.

Moses said the idea for such a class stemmed from recent shootings across the nation, including a deadly church shooting in Texas earlier this month.

Anyone with questions can callt Moses at 205-255-6699.
