Sumiton council approves annexation

Posted

SUMITON - Mayor Petey Ellis and the Sumiton City Council approved two items on the agenda and tabled a third before adjourning on Tuesday.

At the last council meeting in November, they heard a request to annex property located at 592 Cannie Phillips Road into the city limits. Eric and Clarissa Blackmon are the property owners, and they did all the legwork for the process. The city posted the request, which was required by law.  The council voted on Tuesday to approve the ordinance to annex the property.

In other action, the council:

• Approved a request to send officer Jady Pipes to a training class early next year.

• Tabled a request to send Park Director Deb Hampton and Roger Williamson to a Park and Recreation Conference in Mobile in January. Councilman Ken Russell asked for clarification on what training would be presented at the conference.

Ellis tabled the request and will ask Hampton to attend the next council meeting on Dec. 17, to provide additional details. This delay will still give the city time to get the money submitted to get the early-bird discount.
