DORA — Dora police have arrested a man they believe is responsible for a recent mailbox bashing in to the city.

Herman Joseph Jones, 19, of Dora, was arrested and charged Tuesday night with third-degree criminal mischief.

According to a press release posted to the department’s Facebook page, Jones allegedly damaged a mailbox on Wolfe Street with a baseball bat.

Police obtained the arrest warrant earlier in the day Tuesday. Police Chief Jared Hall said they were able to identify Jones due to a description of his vehicle provided by a witness.

In the posted statement, Hall said the department has been using extra and proactive patrols to combat these type of crimes.

Anyone with information regarding other recent mailbox bashings or vehicles that have been damaged by BB guns are urged to call the Dora Police Department at 205-648-9110.
