Two performances of "Seussical Jr." coming Saturday

Oodles of quirky characters will take the stage Saturday for Athletic Arts Center's spring production, "Seussical Jr."

"It's a great show based off of characters from the Dr. Seuss books. It's just like Dr. Seuss — funny and silly. It even rhymes," said the center's owner, Maria Ross Campsey.

The musical's cast includes some veterans of previous productions, as well as a group of local second graders who received music instruction from the center's Cindy Laing through the Walker County Arts Alliance's in-school music program.

Performances will be held at Farmstead Baptist Church at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets are $8 for children and $12 for adults.

The venue is new for one of the center's performances.

Campsey said the partnership came about because church members were looking for opportunities to open their doors to the community, and she likewise has made an effort to select different venues for productions.

"It's one of the ways that we're trying to find different people in the community. This is a perfect space for us. The kids sound so beautiful singing in there, and they've been very supportive," she said.

The show runs 75 minutes without an intermission.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite and will also be sold at the door.
