Vikings snap skid with area victory

Jasper held Corner to just six baskets in the game as the Vikings earned a 48-30 area victory over the Yellow Jackets at Carl Cannon Coliseum on Friday. The win snapped Jasper’s seven-game losing streak.

Jasper held a slim 7-6 lead after the first quarter, but the Vikings began pulling away in the second quarter.

Trinity Epps scored six points in the period and Ryan Thaler added six of his own on a pair of 3-pointers as Jasper built a 23-13 halftime lead.

The Vikings led 31-19 after three quarters. John David Harrell and Kaden Shelton made 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as Jasper pulled away.

Corner made just two shots in the second half and got more than half of its total points (16) at the free-throw line.

For Jasper (3-7, 1-2), Epps finished with 14 points, Thaler put in 12, Harrell added 10 and Shelton had eight points.

Jason Manning had seven for Corner (7-7, 2-2).

Jasper plays at Hamilton on Tuesday.

Corner erupted for 18 points in the fourth quarter to turn a close game into a runaway.

The Yellow Jackets held a slim 17-11 lead going into the final quarter before pulling away.

Jiselle Woodson had 10 points in the quarter and Brantly Bonds added eight.

Corner led 10-4 after the opening quarter and 15-7 at the half. Woodson finished with 18 points for the Yellow Jackets while Bonds added 10.

For Jasper (1-9, 0-3), Jordan Gilbert had four points.
