Vinita B. Thompson, 83, of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at Cordova Health & Rehabilitation in Cordova
The family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, from noon until 2 p.m. at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the Kilgore-Green Chapel, with burial at Walker Memory Gardens. T.J. Armstrong will officiate.
Thompson grew up near Parrish attending Central Elementary and graduating from Walker County High School. She worked 10 years at the Deep South Creamery. On April 1, 1968 she began her employment at the Walker County Circuit Clerk’s office. She was made deputy clerk in 1982. On Aug. 1, 1992, she was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Circuit Clerk. She was elected as Circuit Clerk in 1994 and re-elected in 2001, before retiring in 2007. She was the first woman in Walker County to serve and be elected Circuit Clerk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William W. “Jerry” Thompson; sons, Joseph Daniel Julian and William Alfred “Freddy” Julian; and parents, Max and Clara Burton.
She is survived by her son, Burt Julian (Nan); daughter-in-law, Beverly “Sissy” Julian Perry; grandchildren, Joe Julian, Summer Julian Pate and Amber Julian Randolph; several great-grandchildren; brother, Dan Burton; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives; and many good friends.
