WCSHOF finds a home at Townley Community Center

Posted

The Walker County Sports Hall of Fame has found a home.

The hall of fame, which inducted its fourth class just last week, will move into a space at the Townley Community Center with a grand opening set for Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. The event is open to the public.

For now, the Hall of Fame sets up a display at the entrance of the Brookwood Baptist Medical Center for three and a half months out of the year.

“We have our display a the hospital and we’ve had posters up (downtown),”  said Mickey Beaty of the Walker County Sports Hall of Fame.

“This space at Townley gives us the opportunity to display at one site. This is the first time we’ve really had an area where we can present and display everything in a manner were we feel very comfortable.”

The WCSHOF has access to two rooms at the Townley Community Center.

“We are constantly looking for a place centrally located. Ideally, we would like to have a space in Jasper and keep the Townley facility as a satellite,” Beaty said.

The WCSHOF currently has 85 members after its most recent class of 15 was inducted at New Prospect Baptist Church’s Family Life Center on Aug. 4.

This year’s ceremony will be televised at 7 p.m. on Monday on the Alabama Cable Network.
