What's going on


The “What’s Going On” Section will be featured each Wednesday and Sunday in the Daily Mountain Eagle, and daily on the Community Calendar on the DME website at www.mountaineagle.com. Community and school events, and class and family reunions, are listed free of charge and run in chronological order by calendar date and time. Community and school events, and class and family reunions are only accepted from local civic, government, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, schools, high school classes, and families. The deadline to place a community or school event, class or family reunion is no later than noon on Tuesday or Friday of each week. 2017 Walker County Rabies Clinic will be held on the following dates from 7 until 8 p.m. at these locations: Monday, Aug. 7 - Carbon Hill High School; Tuesday, Aug. 8 - Townley Community Center (old Townley Elementary School); Wednesday, Aug. 9 - Oakman High School; Thursday, Aug. 10 - Lupton Jr. High School; Monday, Aug. 14 - Thach Community Center; Tuesday, Aug. 15 - Curry High School; Wednesday, Aug. 16 - Cordova High School; and Thursday, Aug. 17 - Parrish Elementary School. Project Unity, a time to unite communities and law enforcement, will be held today, July 23, at 2:30 p.m. at 26th Street Baptist Church, 2601 Delaware Ave. in Jasper. The goal of Project Unity is to capture the best practices for cooperation between law enforcement and citizens.

Alabama Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) will be accepting and reviewing applications for projects that enhance the forest ecosystems or restore and improve land health and water quality in the Bankhead and Talladega National Forests in Winston, Lawrence and Clay counties, through Friday, July 28. Eldridge Volunteer Fire Department and Modern Woodmen of America will host a gospel singing fundraiser on Friday, July 28, at 6 p.m. at the Eldridge Community Center in Eldridge. Foothills Festival 2017, presented by the City of Jasper, will be held Friday, Sept. 15, and Saturday, Sept. 16, in downtown Jasper. The two-day free live music event will feature a number of musical acts, kids activities, and a variety of food and merchandise vendors. Featured headliners will be Spin Doctors, North Mississippi Allstars, Muddy Magnolias, John Paul White, Shotgun, Bonnie Bishop, and Wildflowers. Several local bands will also be performing.


43rd Annual Mule Day Car and Bike Show will be Saturday, Sept. 23, at Winfield Middle School on Apple Avenue in Winfield. Registration at 8 a.m. Awards at 2 p.m. First 100 registrants receive an official Mule Day Car Show T-shirt, goodie bag and six pack of Dr. Pepper. Cash and door prizes for registrants.
