Community and school events, and class and family reunions, are listed free of charge and run in chronological order by calendar date and time. The deadline to place a community or school event, class or family reunion is no later than noon each Tuesday and Friday. DEC. 10

DEC. 11

Arley Women’s Club will meet Monday, Dec. 11, at the Arley Library, with lunch at noon and meeting at 1 p.m.

Pineywoods Volunteer Fire Department, behind P.J.’s Restaurant on Pineywoods-Sipsey Road in Jasper, will not host its monthly Swamp John’s Dinner fundraiser in December, but will resume the fundraiser in January 2018.

Walker County Civil Service Board will meet Monday, Dec. 11, at 5 p.m. on the second floor of the Walker County Courthouse Annex.

City of Cordova Christmas Parade will be held Monday, Dec. 11, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Lineup will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot at Cordova High School. To register to participate in the parade, call 205-483-9266.

DEC. 12

Capstone Rural Health Centers Certified Application Counselors will be at Walker Baptist Medical Center on Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 14 p.m. to assist with enrollment in the Affordable Care Insurance Program. Capstone Rural Health hosts its monthly Community Resource Day in Nauvoo on Wednesday, Dec. 13, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. For more information, call Shannon Williamson at 205-724-9031.

“Corner Market” Mobile Grocery Store will be in Nauvoo at the corner of Corner of Nauvoo Road and 3rd Street the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 9:3011 a.m. The unit will then travel to Sipsey, where it will be at the Sipsey City Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can purchase meats, dairy, fresh produce, canned goods and dry goods. This service is offered through the Central Alabama Food Bank. They accept cash, credit cards and EBT cards. At these stops, partnering organizations, such as Capstone, M4A and many others, will be present to offer information about the services they offer the community as well. Walker Baptist Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary will host a Britches and Bows Liquidation Sale Wednesday, Dec. 13, from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 14, from 7 a.m. 3 p.m. Women’s and children’s clothing starting at $10. Kids Loving Kids, a non profit organization in our area, is currently collecting donations of clothes and toys for its annual Kids Loving Kids Christmas Giveaway. The giveaway will be held Saturday, Dec. 16, at Living Light Church of God on North Airport Road in Jasper. Registration for the giveaway will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a Christmas message, selection of items needed/wanted, and lunch. Empire Community Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. Parade line-up will begin at noon. The parade route begins at the Empire Fire Department.

Athletic Arts Center in Jasperwill host its annual performance of “The Nutcracker” Saturday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. at Jasper High School.

Civitan Club of Jasper will have its annual Claxton Fruitcake Sale through Sunday, Dec. 17. The cost is $5 for 1 pound or $10 for 2 pounds. Proceeds go to help the developmentally disabled.
