The “What’s Going On” Section will be featured each Wednesday and Sunday in the A section of the Daily Mountain Eagle, and daily on the Community Calendar on the DME website at www.mountaineagle.com. Community events and class and family reunions are listed free of charge and run in chronological order by calendar date and time. Community events and class and family reunions are only accepted from local civic, government and nonprofit (501(c)(3)) organizations, and high school classes and families. Deadline to place a community event, class or family reunion will be noon each Tuesday and Friday. Relay for Life Team of Gentiva Hospice is currently selling tickets on drawing for a chance to win VIP passes to the Rock The South Concert being held in Cullman in June. Music begins at 5 p.m. with service at 6 p.m. Guest speakers will include Kim Goldman (Ron Goldman’s sister), Victim Representative Doug Gissendaner, District Attorney Bill Adair Jr., Father Keith Lewis and Brother Patrick Morrison. Special music will be provided by C.J. Harris, Christian Gann, Covered by Grace, First Northside Baptist Church Children’s Choir, Jasper City Schools Kids Korale and Bronson Hadder.

Walker County Master Gardeners will host its annual plant sale fundraiser Friday, April 22, and Saturday, April 23, inside the Jasper Mall, featuring many types of flowers and shrubs, including many native varieties. Dancing With Our Stars of Hope, hosted by the RFL of Walker County-Jasper Event Leadership Committee, will be Friday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m. at Rowland Auditorium on the Bevill State Community College-Walker College Campus in Jasper. Admission is $15 for ages 13 and up and $5 ages 6-12. Proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Walker County-Jasper.

Walker County Day, a celebration of everything that makes our community great, will be held Saturday, April 30, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., on the steps of the Walker County Courthouse. Highlights include live music, food, a market and kids’ activities. It all starts at 11 a.m., with the unveiling of Walker County’s new brand campaign. “Walker County Day” organizers welcome all local artists, makers, schools and craftsman to register for booths to sell their merchandise. Walker County nonprofits are also invited to attend to promote awareness and raise funds by selling items, or hosts games that kids and/or adults can play for a small fee. Booth registration is $15. Eldridge Fireman’s Gala will be Friday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m., in the Eldridge Community Gym. This year’s theme will be the CMA Awards. The firefighters will serve as wait staff and Eldridge Firefighters will provide the entertainment.
