William Chappell Gordon, 89, died Monday, July 10, 2017, at his home in Tempe, Ariz.
A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held in Tempe, Ariz. on Jan. 6, 2018, three days prior to his 90th birthday. His remains will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery.
He was born in Washington, D.C., to Stanley and Marjory (Feuquay) Gordon and was an only child.
Bill, as he was known to his many friends and family, was inquisitive, a seeker of knowledge and truth, and a man of profound faith. Over the course of his long, productive life, he had four distinct careers: 20 years in the United States Air Force, 20 years in the hotel and restaurant business, six years as a college instructor and, during the last five years of his life, an ordained All Faiths minister.
He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of nearly 40 years, Vicki Katherine Gordon. Together, they traveled the world, shared a love of musical theater, sang along to favorite songs and loved, loved, loved to laugh. She was at his side at the time of his death.
Along with his loving wife, Bill’s many passions included a love of literature, film, fine food, researching family history and discussing/debating world affairs.
In addition to his wife Vicki, Bill is survived by seven amazing children from his previous marriage to (Margaret) Alaire Burgess Gordon (deceased): Rick (Shirley), Marge Bauer (Frank/deceased), Andy (Marsha), Bill (Lorraine Brazier), Victoria Gordon (Laurie Johnson), Alaire Long (Brenden) and Allyson Estes (Scott). In addition, he is survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
