OAKMAN — Carbon Hill’s Isaac Woodard wasn’t perfect from the field Friday night — it just seemed that way.

The junior guard made nine 3-pointers and finished with a career high 42 points as the Bulldogs earned a 94-70 road win at Oakman in their Class 3A, Area 12 matchup.

Woodard was 9 of 10 from behind the 3-point arc and 11 of 14 from the free throw line.

“Isaac picked a good night to have one of those shooting nights. He’s a great shooter and when he is feeling it like he was tonight he’s tough to guard,” Carbon Hill coach Saige Beaty said. “We have several guys who can shoot and can go on streaks like that, but tonight was definitely his night.”

The game was tied at the half, but Carbon Hill — led by Woodard — scored 50 points in the second half compared to just 26 for Oakman’s run-and-gun squad.

“I can’t be more pleased with our defensive effort in the second half. Our close outs were really good compared to the first half,” Beaty added.

Woodard made five 3-pointers and scored 17 points in the first quarter alone as Carbon Hill grabbed a 26-18 lead going into the second quarter.

Oakman’s Skylar Hice had 10 points in the second quarter, compared to just two for Woodard, as the Wildcats drew even, 44-44, at the half.

Woodard took over in the third quarter, connecting on a 3-pointer in the opening seconds. With the score tied 47-47, Carbon Hill went on a 19-2 run with Woodard, Dillon Roberts and Braden Wright doing the damage on the offensive end.

Roberts started the run with a jumper, Wright followed with a basket and after a second basket by Roberts, Woodard connected on a 3-pointer and Roberts converted a 3-point play for a 59-49 lead with 4:09 left in the quarter. Woodard closed the run with yet another 3-pointer and a pair of free throws for a 66-49 lead at the 2:18 mark.

Woodard added four more free throws for a 70-53 Carbon Hill lead going into the fourth quarter. He made his final 3-pointer midway through the final period.

Bice finished with 18 points for Carbon Hill (4-4, 2-0), Wright had 11, Roberts added eight and Carson McGinnis put in seven.

For Oakman (3-2, 0-2), Hice made five 3-pointers and had 27 points, Peyton Hill put in 16 and Christian Hubbard added 10.

Carbon Hill plays at Hanceville in another area game tonight while Oakman plays at Curry on Tuesday.
