A church youth group recently gave 100 fruit baskets to local nursing home residents during the Christmas season.

The Inspiration Trendsetters of Rice Chapel AME Church in Jasper recent visited residents at Shadescrest Health Care Center, Ridgeview Health Services and Ridgewood Health Services on Christmas Eve.

About 15 youth are in the group, according to Cynthia Mitchell, who founded the youth group. Sarah McElrath is the president of the group.

"We prayed with them and talked with them," Mitchell said. "We spent some time with them."

Greg Tinker, as well as his family and friends, donated the fruit. Mitchell expressed appreciation for the donation.

She said the youth group will also clean homes this summer. "If anyone needs their homes cleaned, it is a free service. Please give us a call and we'll be happy to come out," she said.

Mitchell can be reached at 205-275-2013.
