Carolyn Evonne Gurganus, 74, of Hollywood, Fla., died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at Hillcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hollywood. Funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. at the Dovertown Church of Christ in Cordova with burial in the Dovertown Cemetery. Rob Gurganus, Rickey Burger and Kevin Stanford will officiate. Visitation will be today, Oct. 27, at Collins-Burke Funeral Home Parlor from 6 until 9 p.m. and one hour prior to funeral services at Dovertown Church of Christ.

Gurganus was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Gurganus; and brothers, Rufus Thornton, Winfield Thornton and Tom Thornton.

She was survived by her sons, Gerald Gurganus (Deborah) of Falkville, Carl Gurganus and Roger Gurganus (Suzie); sisters, Grace Draffin, Adeline O’Banion, Nola Mae Tyre, Geraldine Thornton, Flora Wolfe and Odell Wolfe; brothers, Hillard Gurganus and L.T. Gurganus; grandchildren, Gina Cooper (Bryan), Jason Gurganus (Kelly), Bryan Gurganus, Jimmy Gurganus, Kelly Gurganus and Emily Gurganus; great-grandchildren, Zane Gurganus, Ava Gurganus and Seven Cooper.

Pallbearers will be Gerald Gurganus, Carl Gurganus, Roger Gurganus, Jason Gurganus, Bryan Cooper, Bryan Gurganus and Jimmy Gurganus. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews.
