CARBON HILL -- A Carbon Hill man, wanted for the Dec. 22 shooting of 51-year-old Ricky Keeton at the Forest Ridge Apartments, was arrested Thursday in Huntsville.

Carbon Hill Police Chief Heath Allred said Danie D. Carlock, 27, of Carbon Hill was tracked to Hunstville and arrested by United States Federal Marshals in the early morning hours of Thursday. Carlock was charged with first degree assault. He was taken to the Madison County Jail, then extradited to the Walker County Jail on Friday where he is currently being held on a $250,000 cash bond.

The shooting took place while Keeton, a Carbon Hill resident, was patrolling the apartment complex parking lot and was taking a break when the suspect shot him. Allred said the apartment complex owner had asked Keeton to keep watch over the property. The victim was taken to UAB Hospital and is still recovering from the incident.

Allred gave high praise to many of agencies involved in the investigation and arrest, particularly the U.S. Marshals, Walker Co. Sheriff John Mark Tirey and lead investigator Darryl Mote, who were instrumental in the suspect's capture.

"We were able to get a dangerous person off the streets and ensure the safety of the community with this apprehension," Allred said. "We had great cooperation at many levels -- from the outstanding work of Sheriff's Department and Officer Mote, to the efforts of the marshals in tracking the suspect down and making the arrest. This quick operation couldn't have been possible without all of their help."
