Mae Frances Rice Baxter, 95, passed away on Jan. 1, 2011. Affectionately known as “Hank,” she was born in Birmingham on Sept. 12, 1915, to Clarence Elvin Rice and Clara Batton Rice.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, John Rice, Willana Rice Farmer and Clare Rice Chichester; and her husband of 62 years, Lionel Francis Baxter.

She is survived by her children, Lionel Francis Baxter Jr. (Dee) of Jasper, Clarence Rice Baxter (Terri) of Birmingham and Clara Hansel Baxter of Jacksonville, Fla. She is also survived by four grandsons, Lionel Francis Baxter III, John Patrick Baxter (Jeanne), Jordan Clay Baxter (Jill) and Matthew Joseph Baxter; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, Miss., from noon until 1 p.m., followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. in Logtown Cemetery in Logtown, Miss.
