Meek falls victim to undefeated Carbon Hill

ARLEY — The Carbon Hill Bulldogs handled themselves well on the road Friday night.

Carbon Hill swept the Tigers in Arley on Senior Night.

The 2nd-ranked Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 16-0 lead and remained undefeated, coasting to their 23rd win of the season after knocking off Meek 61-43.

Carbon Hill (23-0) led 18-3 after the first quarter and 34-11 at halftime before taking a 52-32 cushion after the third quarter.

Connor Young scored a season, and game-high, 18 points to lead the Bulldogs while Landon Herron added 10 points, Tylor Owens had nine, Blaine Eads had six, Kolton Nichols had six, Kevin Pate had four and Gerald Smith had four.

Meek (18-6) was led by Dylan Cleghorn with 15 points. Cleghorn, who recently eclipsed the 1,000 point mark, was awarded a game ball from head coach Jamie Edwards before tip-off.

Jentson Hiller managed nine points for the Tigers while Jackson Murphy added eight and Andrew Johnson had four.

Carbon Hill will host Pleasant Grove, beginning with the JV boys game at 4 p.m. today in a make-up game that was rescheduled from Thursday. Pleasant Grove is 20-5 and is ranked 3rd in Class 5A.

Meek will play again, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Tigers, who are hosting the 1A, Area 12 tournament, will face the winner of Brilliant vs. Addison. Brilliant will face Addison at Meek High School at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Varsity Girls

Carbon Hill 43, Meek 35

The Carbon Hill Lady Bulldogs improved to 17-7 after a 43-35 road win over Meek.

The Lady Bulldogs led 11-7 after the first quarter but trailed 22-20 at the half before taking a 31-27 lead after the third quarter.

Meagan Bice led Carbon Hill with 12 points and seven rebounds. Lindsey Fluker had nine points and 10 rebounds while Nikki Alexander had nine points, Ashley Tubbs had five, Jessica Farris had four and Emily Posten managed three.

Meek’s Anna Mauldin led all scorers with 16 points while Heylee Ragsdale added nine.

Varsity Boys

Dora 69, Parrish 53

At Parrish, the Dora Bulldogs improved 11-14 after knocking off Parrish 69-53.

Dora jumped out to a 25-9 lead after the first quarter before taking leads of 35-15 at halftime and 51-24 after the third quarter.

The two teams combined to make 24 three-pointers during the game, including 14 by Dora.

Parrish connected on 10 three’s, including eight in a fourth-quarter rally attempt.

Stevie Woods led Dora with 14 points while Caleb May and Devonte Gosha both added eight.

Parrish’s Jeremy Piper led all scorers with 16 points, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter.

Wesley Smith added 14 points and Reginald Harris added eight for Parrish.

Dora will host Cordova for Senior Night on Monday.

Varsity Boys

Hubbertville 48, Lynn 46

Hubbertville topped Lynn 48-46 behind Jake McCollum’s 14 points.

Michael Smallwood scored 13 points for Hubbertville while Jordan Wyma added nine, including a 3-point play to recapture the lead with just over a minute remaining, and David Aldridge had nine.

Lynn’s Grant Lawson scored 14 points while Peyton Moore added 12, Jake Estell had nine and Brody Meeks managed eight.

Varsity Girls

No. 6 Lynn 46, Hubbertville 36

The 6th-ranked Lynn Lady Bears improved to 20-1 with a 46-36 win over Hubbertville.

Jackee Dodd scored 25 points to lead all players, Reagan Tittle added nine while both Lindsey Tompkin and Brooke Harris added six each.

Hubbertville (18-6) suffered its third loss this year to Lynn.

The Lady Lions were led by Taylor Benton’s 11 points while Allie Baker added 10.

Hubbertville shot 4-of-29 from the field in the second half after leading 27-26 at halftime.



Varsity Boys

John Carroll 58, Walker 35

The Walker Vikings fell on Senior Night 58-35 to John Carroll.

Walker trailed 14-6 after the first quarter and 32-11 at the half before facing a 42-21 deficit after the third quarter.

A.J. Dickerson led the Vikings with 11 points while Peyton Gregg added nine.

John Carroll’s Chris Tuck led all scorers with 20 points.

Walker will travel to Cullman on Monday.

Varsity Girls

Walker 45, John Carroll 35

The Walker Lady Vikings earned a win on Senior Night at Songer Gym.

Walker topped John Carroll 45-35 and moved to 8-11 on the year.

Shaq Morris led the Lady Vikings with 17 points while Jazmine Lake scored nine and Sidney Cooper added eight.

Walker led 12-3 after the first quarter and 21-8 at halftime before taking a 30-19 cushion after the third quarter.

The Lady Vikings have four seniors on this year’s squad, including Morris, Christina Reed, Breanna Marbury and Allison Farris.

Walker will travel to Cullman on Monday.

JV Boys

John Carroll 33, Walker 30

Walker’s junior varsity fell to 12-6 after a 33-30 loss to John Carroll.

Walker trailed 17-4 after the first quarter and 24-9 at the half.

James Clouse and Tyler Phillips led the Vikings with nine points.

Harold Short Jr. led John Carroll with 10 points.

Walker closes its season at Cullman on Monday.



Ninth-grade boys

Walker 42, John Carroll 37

Jonathan McCants scored 12 points and Riley Graham added 10 as Walker’s freshmen beat John Carroll 42-37.

Walker led 8-4 after the first quarter, 19-17 at halftime and 30-20 after the third quarter.
