A 41-year-old woman died and her husband was rushed to a Birmingham hospital after an all-terrain vehicle crash Sunday in Curry.

Walker County Coroner J.C. Poe said Donna Jean Drummond, of Pineywoods, died of head injuries before emergency responders reached the scene.

Poe said Drummond and her husband were riding in a wooded area of the Pineywoods community in Curry near Reed Road when their ATV ran off an embankment around noon on Sunday.

Drummond's husband was airlifted to UAB Hospital from the scene. Poe said he did not know the specific injuries of Drummond's husband, but he believes they are serious.

Efforts to reach UAB Hospital officials regarding the husband's condition were unsuccessful Monday.

In addition to Poe and Deputy Coroner Ray Capps, officers with the Pineywoods Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.
