Local “hog” owners will have their minds on horses this Saturday as they participate in the EASI Ride Benefit Poker Run.

Registration will start at 11 a.m. at The Greenhorn Saloon in Jasper. Car owners are welcome to join bikers on the ride.

The first stops will be made at the EASI barn. After that, riders will travel to Handley’s Western Wear, The Barn and The Alabama Rose in Quinton.

The run will end at The Greenhorn Saloon.

The cost to participate is $25 per hand. The last hand must be in by 4 p.m.

Proceeds from the biannual event benefit EASI, the Equines Assisting Special Individuals therapeutic horseback riding program.

Melissa Akins, an EASI volunteer and ride organizer, said a similar event in October involved more than 170 bikers and raised $10,000 for the program.

“We basically try to pay the barn’s bills so it can stay open and continue helping children,” Akins said.
