The Nauvoo Historical Society is hosting its 16th annual car show on June 18 with all proceeds going to victims of April’s tornadoes.

The Nauvoo Car Show will take place in downtown Nauvoo near the Old Harbin Hotel.

Gene McDaniel, a member of the Nauvoo Historical Society and organizer of the event, said the amount of destruction left in the wake of the storms was so terrible that he wanted to do something to help.

“This car show is such a big event that I just felt like we could raise some money to help those folks that need it,” he said. “We have had more than 300 cars registered in years gone by, and I think we could have that many again this year. We hope to be able to give thousands of dollars.”

Anyone wanting to enter a car can pre-register by sending a $20 check or money order to the Nauvoo Historical Society at P.O. Box 157, Nauvoo, AL 35578. Organizers ask that entrants include their name, address and vehicle (car, truck or tractor) information. McDaniel said residents interested in donating funds to tornado victims can also send a check or money order to the same address.
