Sonda Lee Smitherman, 69, of Jasper, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at his residence.

He worked for Bellsouth and AT&T for 47 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Jasper. He served three years in the U.S. Army. He was a Mason.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, June 21, 2011, at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Walker Memory Gardens. Dr. Dennis Culbreth will officiate. Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. today, prior to services.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Theresa Wakefield; and father, James Smitherman.

He is survived by his wife, Mendy Smitherman of Jasper; children, Sonny Smitherman (Tammy) of Hueytown, Yolonda Hubbert Newton (Rob J) of Birmingham and Charles Henry Hubbert Jr. of Adamsville; grandchildren, Blake Smitherman, Kayley Thrasher, Frances Thrasher, Chase Newton and Sydney Newton; sister, Dulane Johnson of Jasper; and mother, Willodean Barton of Jasper.

Pallbearers will be Donald Talley, Richard Stewart, Jeff Donaldson, Kelly Ferguson, Barry Todd and Freddy Franks Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be former co-employees of AT&T.
