As police continue to investigate a Wednesday morning fatal shooting in west Jasper, the names of the two victims in the incident have officially been released.

Jasper Police Chief Connie Cooner Rowe announced Friday that Greg Johnson, 26, of Jasper was the person killed in the shooting, while Jasper resident Jerrick McLemore was severely injured in the incident and is currently in stable condition at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

The shooting happened just after 3 a.m. Wednesday at a home on 13th Avenue West in Jasper near R.J.’s convenience store. Rowe said Jasper police were at the scene processing evidence until late Wednesday night.

Police have no suspects in custody, but Rowe said the investigation continues to move forward.

“We are fortunate to have a great deal of intelligence coming in to consider,” she said. “We have had cooperation from many members of the community and are continuing to search for the person or persons responsible for this crime.”

The murder is the first in Jasper this year.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact the Jasper Police Department at 205-221-2121 or the Walker County District Attorney’s Office at 205-384-7272.
