George Kenneth Farris, 81, of Lynn, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at his residence. Mr. Farris was born on July 10, 1930, in Lamar County. He was a resident of Lynn the majority of his life. Farris served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. After discharge from the Army, he received his bachelor of science degree in education from the University of North Alabama and taught at Lynn school for several years. He started working for Southern Railroad after 43 years. Mr. Farris was a faithful member of the Lynn Church of Christ.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Imalee Farris; two daughters, Vicki Farris of Hoover and Regina Easley and her husband, Fred, of Lynn; two granddaughters, Emma Easley and Caci Easley; one brother, Leonard Farris and his wife, Merceed, of Lynn; sisters-in-law, Ruth Farris of Jasper, Lorene Farris of Natural Bridge, Edith Farris of Nauvoo, Irene (Bobby) Harris of Hoover, Jerrie (C.W.) Woody of Alabaster and Shirley (Bobby) Mann of Lynn; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Marty George Farris; parents, Wheeler and Etta Farris; brothers, Gladys Farris, J.O. Farris, Lynue Farris, J.D. Farris and Jim Farris; sisters, Ruth Dunn and Betty Faye Farris.

Visitation will be today, Aug. 4, 2011, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville. The funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, at the funeral home.
