The First United Methodist Church of Carbon Hill will be the location of a very special birthday celebration Saturday.

Deborah Selman Webb, a member of the church, was involved in a car accident a few months ago that left her severely injured. Webb’s car left the road and landed in a ravine, and she was not found for seven hours after the accident. In the incident both of Webb’s legs were broken and she suffered head trauma.

Webb’s family is hosting the church event Saturday to thank members of the church who have given their support for Webb during her recovery.

Before the accident, which left Webb in a wheelchair, she had worked to raise money for the church’s building fund.

“She’s such a dedicated Christian,” church member Becky Hodgson said.

Instead of receiving gifts for her birthday on Saturday, Webb is encouraging people to donate to the church instead.

The church will also be accepting aluminum cans, with proceeds going to the church building fund.

Webb will give her testimony at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with lunch beginning at noon.

Hodgson said the event will be a way to celebrate Webb’s birthday but to also celebrate her life and the fact that she survived the accident.
