CORDOVA — Walker’s Carson Roberts threw a pair of touchdown passes and the Vikings’ defense did the rest in their jamboree contest at Cordova’s Hudson-Kirby Stadium Thursday night.

Roberts, one of the Vikings’ top returning seniors, completed 7-of-11 passes for 112 yards in one half of play. Walker’s Chancellor Allen added a 50-yard fumble return as the Vikings picked up the 44-7 victory.

Walker’s defense put on a show, holding Cordova to just 17 first-half yards. The Vikings had nine tackles for loss in the first half and held the Blue Devils to 128 yards on the night.

Cordova held the Vikings on their first possession, but Walker needed just four plays to get in the end zone on its second drive.

Roberts closed the drive with a touchdown strike to Dashuan Kendrick for a 32-yard score. The touchdown was set up by a Michael Bridges 15-yard run and an 11-yard pass to Nic Woodley.

Eric Vinson set up Walker’s next score with an interception that he returned 26 yards to the Cordova 45-yard line. Kicker Gunter Wisdom finished the drive with a 38-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead.

Walker’s defense provided the next score when Allen picked up a fumble at the 50-yard and went the distance down the sideline for the score.

Cordova’s Marcus Lottier provided the Blue Devils’ first-half highlight with an interception in the end zone to thwart another Walker scoring attempt.

Walker closed the half with Roberts hitting Woodley on a 29-yard touchdown with 16 seconds left for a 24-0 halftime lead.

The Vikings added three scores in the second half.

Back-up quarterback Blake Wilkes threw a touchdown pass and running back Kevin Clay rushed for a pair of touchdowns.

On the night, Walker rushed for 183 yards on 30 carries. The team also completed 9-of-15 passes for 128 yards. Woodley hauled in four catches for 62 yards and a score.

Clay rushed for 100 yards on 11 carries. Tyler Phillips added 47 yards on six carries. Jonathan Piteo led the Vikings with seven tackles while Austin Mansell added six tackles.

For Cordova, Nathan Alexander rushed eight times for 47 yards and Nathan Humphries rushed 12 times for 41 yards and a score.
