Coffee Ninja, located on Walston Bridge Road in The Place Too shopping center, began welcoming customers on Saturday.

Owner Brian McMillian made the coffee shop his newest business venture. McMillian has been a bar manager at several business locations, including the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi, Miss. He is also the owner of Bama Elite Fitness and CrossFit, which is adjacent to Coffee Ninja.

McMillian, a Parrish High School graduate, chose to open a coffee shop in Jasper and hopes to one day open coffee shops in other locations, including Birmingham.

“I’ve always loved the atmosphere of coffee shops,” he said.

Coffee Ninja, however, is not your typical coffee shop. McMillian chose to create a classy bar scene, featuring non-traditional, vertical bar stools, instead of the typical round stool. Two large, black table tops frame the sides of the coffee shop walls, which are painted a deep burgundy.

McMillian is also creating a wall with framed photographs of iconic celebrities, such as Marilyn Monroe. He plans to add photographs of locals to wall, and he also displays the artwork of local artists, that is available for purchase.

A wide variety of beverages are available at Coffee Ninja, including espresso, cappuccino, coffee, chai latte, hot cocoa, smoothies, frappes and teas.

One beverage that McMillian created himself is the Chuck Norris Chocolate Protein Latte that contains 50 grams of protein.

So far, McMillian’s frappes have been his biggest seller, which can be purchased in vanilla, chocolate, coconut, hazelnut or caramel flavors.

McMillian also offers specialty tea blends, which come in a pot for one, such as rose scented, peaches and ginger or Earl Gray supreme varieties.

Cupcakes, scones, cheese danishes and muffins are also available for purchase. Additionally, wraps are available for those who need something a bit more filling.

The New Orleans wrap consists of fajita chicken, bell peppers and onions, sautéed in garlic olive oil. All wraps come with a bag of chips.

“I try to offer a healthy alternative,” McMillian said, adding that he uses natural, fresh products when making drinks and food items.

Free Wi-Fi access is also available at Coffee Ninja and McMillian encourages students to come to the coffee shop to study and adults to come and relax in a unique, peaceful atmosphere.

Coffee Ninja is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. On Friday, the coffee shop is open extended hours, until 10 p.m. While the coffee shop is closed on Sunday, the shop will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
