Billy Ray Smith, 60, of Jasper, passed away on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at his residence. Smith served his country faithfully during the Vietnam War. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and a Godly man who will be missed by all who knew him. The world is a little less bright with him not in it.

Funeral services will be at noon on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at Arley First United Methodist Church with internment services including military honors at 2:30 p.m. at Barney Cemetery in Cordova. The Rev. Ron Gilbreath and the Rev. Delwin Kilgore will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon at the church prior to services. Bell Funeral Home Sumiton has been entrusted with the arrangements.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Billi Ann Smith; parents, Clifford and Vella Smith; three brothers; and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Aycock Smith of Jasper; daughter, Lakan Elise Aycock of Jasper; nephew/son, Larry Keith Garrison of Jasper; step-son, Joseph Paul Higginbotham of Jasper; step-daughter, Paula Joy Pate of Jasper; sisters, Barbara Smith of Jasper and Brenda Franklin of Tuscaloosa; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two future great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Arley First United Methodist Church.
