Mr. Avant was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Elizabeth “Sis” Yarbrough Avant; his parents, David Mack “D.M.” and Leila Keith Avant; two brothers, Leonard and Leon Avant; and three sisters, Louise Avant, Mattie Knighten, and Alpha Mac Mullan.
He is survived by two sons, David Louis (Mary Ellen) Avant, John Larry (Dianne) Avant; one daughter, Aletha Avant (Bob) Wilson of Jasper; four grandchildren, Dave (Leigh Ann) Avant, Ellen (Andy) Bell, Betsy (Chuck) Burkhart, and Laurie Avant; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and many friends.
Pallbearers were Dr. Sammy Miller, George Walthall, Chuck Burkhart, Andrew Bell Sr., Dave Avant Jr., and Malcolm D. Smith.
The family received friends at Prattville Memorial on Wednesday from 10 until 11 a.m.
