Mary Elizabeth Tubb Gurganus, 88, of Cordova, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at Cordova Health and Rehab Center.

Gurganus was a life-long, active member of Cordova First Baptist Church where she served for many years in virtually every capacity including Sunday school teacher, choir member and WMU director. She was a homemaker, wonderful mother, devoted wife and friend to so many. Her life was typified by helping others at all times and she leaves a legacy of friendship and caring with her host of friends and family.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 17, 2011, at First Baptist Church of Cordova. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The Rev. Don. Graham will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today prior to services.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. E.H. Tubb; brother, Hillard Tubb; sisters, Agnes Tubb and Kathryn Tubb Adams; and beloved nephew, James “Jim” Samuel Adams.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, William Hardie Gurganus; children, Ralph Gurganus (Ellen) and Marilyn Gober; grandchildren, Kyla Gurganus, Greer Gurganus, Colin Gurganus and MaLea Welch (Scott); great-grandchild, Andrew Welch; and nephew, Charles “Pete” Tubb.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Cordova Health and Rehab who cared for her so lovingly and her roommate and friend Christine Smith.
