WINFIELD — The Winston County Yellow Jackets fell to 0-6, 0-4 with a 35-20 loss to Winfield Friday night.

Winfield racked up 312 yards of offense, mostly in the first half, to get the win and improve to 4-2, 2-2 on the year.

Winfield jumped on the Jackets early.

The Pirates’ Stacey Nails scored on the second play of the game with a 12-yard run. Marcos Garcia’s extra point was good, making it 7-0 with just 33 seconds off the first-quarter clock. Winfield continued to dominate, scoring on four out of its next five possessions. The only time the Pirates failed to score was when the first-half clock ran out to end their drive.

The Jackets struggled to find rhythm in the first half. Winfield’s defense stuffed the run, and intercepted Winston County quarterback Seth Blanton’s second pass attempt of the night. The pick by Hagen Stovall was returned 55 yards for a touchdown. Garcia’s extra point made the score 21-0 with 1:19 remaining in the first quarter.

Winston County was able to move the ball a little better in the second half. Blanton completed 7-of-11 pass attempts for 155 yards and two scores. Edward Lamp also added a six-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the Jackets.

Winfield had a 28-0 lead going into the half. The Pirates scored on their first drive of the third quarter, pushing the lead to 35-0. From there, Winfield played the starters sparingly for the rest of the game.

Blanton finished 9-of-16 passing for 171 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Winston County managed just 69 yards rushing on 29 carries for the night. The Yellow Jackets travel to Holly Pond next week.
