He was a member of Farmstead Baptist Church for more than 40 years. He enlisted in the CCC’s in the 1930’s, was a Scout Leader for Curry Troop 94 for a number of years and a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 25, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Farmstead Baptist Church with burial following at Curry Cemetery. Visitation will be today, Oct. 25, 2011, from 1 until 2 p.m. at the church (Visitation was also held on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at Collins-Burke Funeral Home). Evelyn Nunnelley and the Rev. Don Graham will officiate.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Hazel Ellen Harbison Farley; father, Fred Farley; mother, Della Humphries Farley; sister, Lillian Farley Williams and brother-in-law, Louis Williams.
He is survived by his daughters, Joyce F. Busby of Calhoun, Ga., and Judy F. (David) Gaines of Jasper; sons, Richard Farley of Jasper and Michael Farley of Jasper; grandchildren, Karon (Rick) Thompson, Kevin Farley, Kelli (Shane) Porter, Greg Busby, Dixi Farley and Lacey Farley; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Thompson, Sarrah Thompson, Sydney Thompson, Kayne Porter and Korbin Porter and special care givers, April Hamilton, Tammy Kiser and Chris Lollar.
