A Walker County man died Thursday morning in a single-vehicle accident.

Gregory Scott Wilhite, 38, of Nauvoo was driving a coal truck in the westbound lane of Highway 124 in the Townley community. Walker County Coroner J.C. Poe said Wilhite's vehicle ran off the road to the left side and went down an embankment. Poe said the accident happened around 11 a.m. and Wilhite died on the scene.

"There were no other vehicles involved, and Mr. Wilhite was the only person in his truck," Poe said.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated, Poe added.

Poe said the Alabama State Troopers responded to the scene and are investigating the accident. Frankie Posten of the Walker County Coroner's Office and members of the Townley Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the accident.
