Margaret Kathleen McCollum and Whitney DeBardeleben Jr. were married on Saturday, the thirtieth of July at six thirty in the evening. The wedding took place at The Church of the Incarnation in Highlands, North Carolina. The Very Reverend Denson Franklin and The Very Reverend John Pagel officiated. A reception followed at Highland Country Club.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Gwaltney McCollum, Jr. of Jasper. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Sarah Webb McCollum and the late Mr. Luther Gwaltney McCollum, Sr. of Greensboro and Dr. Rollins Lynne Tindell, Sr. and the late Mrs. Margaret Peacock Tindell of Dothan.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Whitney DeBardeleben of Birmingham and Mr. and Mrs. Craig Lee Baker of Birmingham. He is the grandson of Mrs. Ann Welch DeBardeleben and the late Mr. Prince DeBardeleben Jr. of Birmingham and the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Thornton Estes of Birmingham.
The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a pearl necklace that was purchased in France in 1824 as a gift from her great, great, great, great grandfather to his wife. The brides in the family have worn this necklace for generations. Attending the bride as her matron of honor was her sister, Elizabeth McCollum Goodwyn. Bridesmaids were Virginia Estes DeBardeleben, Anne DeBardeleben Livingston, Elizabeth Cunningham DeBardeleben, Laura Ahn Samford and Laura Cathleen Herndon. Caroline Henderson Goings and Sarah Creagh Goings, cousins of the bride, were junior bridesmaids. Lola Katherine Shields, cousin of the bride, was the flower girl.
Mr. Whitney DeBardeleben Sr. served as best man. Groomsmen were Craig Lee Baker, William Thornton Baker, Dallas Sean Livingston, Caleb McNeil Goodwyn, and Charles Welch DeBardeleben. William Richardson Shields, cousin of the bride, was ring bearer.
After a wedding trip to Manu Faru, Maldives, the couple is at home in Birmingham.
