Christmas will come to Double Springs Monday night.

Two area clubs are sponsoring events that traditionally kick off the holiday season in the Winston County area — the Double Springs Christmas Parade and Christmas in the Park.

The parade, sponsored by the Double Springs Panorama Club, will begin at Double Springs Elementary School at 5:30 p.m. and will travel through downtown Double Springs. After the parade, the Double Springs Study Club will host Christmas in the Park at the city’s community center.

“People look forward to this night,” said Study Club member Glennis Posey. “The parade has always been a big thing in Double Springs, and now people also love the Christmas in the Park.”

Posey said the Christmas in the Park event started five years ago. She said the area around the Double Springs Community Center is full of lights and decorations, including 4-foot square, hand-painted Christmas cards.

“We have 60 to 70 cards now,” Posey said. “We re-use them every year and we usually pick up one or two more each year. They are one of the things that people always talk about when they come to Christmas in the Park.”
