Three die in accidents on area roadways

Two teenage girls were killed in a car accident Saturday morning in the Curry community, while a Jasper man was killed in another accident Friday afternoon in Jasper.

Karlya Renee Crystal Bailey, 19, of Jasper and Sara Anne Summer Lane, 17, of Double Springs were involved in a one-car accident Saturday morning. Walker County Coroner J.C. Poe said the first 911 call concerning the accident was received at 8:35 a.m. Poe said the vehicle the girls were traveling inside struck a tree at a high rate of speed just of Highway 257 on Sunlight Road in Curry.

Bailey was pronounced dead on the scene, Poe said, while Lane was flown by helicopter to UAB Hospital where she later died.

“This was just tragic,” Poe said.

Poe said Curry Volunteer Fire Department and Regional Paramedical Services responded to the accident.

Patrick Lynn Geeslin, 25, was killed Friday afternoon when his car collided head-on with a pickup truck on Fall City Road in Jasper.

Poe said Geeslin’s vechicle was going southbound in the northbound lane of the road when the accident took place around 4:55 p.m.

The driver of the pickup truck was airlifted to a Birmingham hospital. Poe said Saturday night he had not been updated on the condition of the pickup’s driver.

Mt. Zion Fire Volunteer Fire Department and RPS responded to the accident on Fall City Road.

Poe said Ray Capps and Frankie Poston, deputy coroners, worked both the accidents and Alabama State Troopers are investigating each of the crashes.
