Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Kansas United Methodist Church with burial following at Kelley Cemetery. Morris Helton will officiate.
Visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011 at the church.
He was born on Aug. 12, 1930 in Walker County, the son of James Matthew Jones and Lula Bell Tidwell Jones. He was a resident of the Eldridge and Kansas areas most of his life. He was a veteran of the Korean War with the U.S. Army and enlisted with the reserves — released in 1961. He was a member of the American Legion Post 101 in Carbon Hill and was a retired coal hauler of W and K Trucking in Natural Bridge. He was a member of Kansas United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Mae Werno Jones, who passed away on March 8, 2003; sisters, Selma Heathcock, Louise Tidwell and Ethel Lee Williams and brothers, Enoch, Kenneth and Lester Jones.
He is survived by his sons, Bill Jones (Debra) of Haleyville, Chuck Jones (Betty) of Nauvoo and Curt Jones (Sonya) of Jasper; daughters, Vicki Colburn (Kenneth) of Kansas, Gloria Colburn (Timothy) of Nauvoo and Teresa Tucker (Christopher) of Kansas; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry ‘Ted’ Joes (Nancy) of Florida; sister, Dorothy Wallace of Florence; nieces, nephews and other relatives and special friend, Dean Price of Carbon Hill.
